Frequently Asked Questions
How long will it take for my house to be painted, and once you start, will you stay on my job?
An exterior house painting project usually takes a several days to complete, depending on the size of the home and the amount of surface preparation required. One interior room, on the other hand, can typically be completed in just one day—depending on the complexity of the room. When we schedule any painting job, consecutive days are always planned with no interruptions except for weather events or other unforeseen circumstances.
What kind of preparation should I do before the team arrives?
When it comes to moving heavy furniture and protecting anything that will stay in the room while it is being painted—we‘ve got you covered. Generally, most clients will remove any small items including, fragile or decorative items before we arrive. This helps improve the speed and efficiency of our work. At the end of the job, we will perform any necessary cleaning to ensure no unwanted paint is left on any walls, doors, or woodwork.
How do I fix a large drywall hole?
Drywall can usually be fixed using a mesh patch, joint compound, and a fresh coat of paint. This isn‘t always the easiest job to get right the first time by yourself, however, so it is always a good idea to have the job performed by a professional painter. Our team has repaired countless holes in drywall and can complete the job perfectly with advanced techniques at a minimal cost.
How do I touch up a painted surface after the job is done?
It really depends. Was the touch up as a result of gouges that may need to be patched first or are there marks on the surface from pen or some kind of marker. Or perhaps it’s just a “dirt spot” that can be wiped off with a micro-fiber cloth and some water. Each type of damage is a separate procedure to correctly “touch up.” We invite you to reach out to us so we can try to assist you depending on your individual situation.
How often should my exterior be painted?
Here in New England, your average exterior paint job will last between 4 and 6 years. However, it is essential to remember that several factors can alter that time frame, including sun exposure, high humidity, and snow. Sometimes, even when you think the paint still looks good, there could be minor problems developing right under your nose. Our team is always available to provide a professional analysis to give you an idea of when it is time to repaint.
My house and deck need repainting, but the wood is beginning to rot; what should I do?
Rotting wood should be replaced before any painting is done. Our team can help you with carpentry repairs but this will require a close look at any damage. Of course, sometimes damages are latent and only discovered during the preparation process. We will work with you to make suggestions so you can avoid wasting money with a temporary fix.
How much to paint my house and why are some prices all over the place
A lot goes into our estimates, but the main factors are thoroughness, attention to detail, and desired quality. For example, an expert craftsperson working for an established company will cost more than some painters hired by a lesser company who may just give your home a quick once-over. In that case, hiring a less-experienced painter may be cheaper upfront, but the job most likely won’t last as long.
Because each job is different, we don‘t use unit pricing. Instead, we determine factors like the type of surface preparation and level of difficulty. We may ask the age of your home to determine if there could be a danger of lead paint or other hazardous material that might be disturbed
We welcome the opportunity to meet with you to discuss your painting needs thoroughly. This allows us to provide you with a free estimate on our initial visit so you can learn more about how competitively priced we are for the quality of our work.
Why is it so hard to choose colors?
Choosing a color for your home is more complicated than simply picking out your favorite color. Why? Because there can be a significant disconnect between picking colors, the function of the space, and your feelings about it. Figuring out the suitable color for the right room is simply not a skill that most of us learned in school.
If you find it challenging to figure out what color will work best in your space, please reach out to our team. We have years of experience matching the right color to the style and atmosphere homeowners are looking for and can suggest how to choose that perfect shade for your home.
